Book Printing

'Buddhism and other such rubbish!'

Gavin is a stand-up comedian, and has put together some of his material into a laugh-out-loud book. As well as selling it through online retailers, he offers signed copies at his shows, and has had a great response to his musings on those who profess to be experts on every subject under the sun!

“Some publishers want to be your manager or want to have say in the content of a book. All I wanted was someone to proof read it, put any references or spelling/comprehension right, do all the hard work like get a copy to the National library etc. and then in turn print it.
It seemed to me like they had time for you when you rang up or emailed. I was very naive and asked the most obvious questions and they calmly explained the whole procedure to me as to how I go about getting a book out.
I was very happy with the service, honestly more happy than I would've even hoped for. It's been a great experience and a great service.”

'Oslo'

This is a delightful story about a whale whose tail looks like a Wellington boot. Stephen wanted copies to sell and distribute himself initially to gauge feedback – and he has had a great response to his children’s tale (and tail). You can see more details on his website: https://stephenbenchcapon.eu/oslo

“I published my children's novel 'Oslo' with UK Book Publishing and I was very impressed and happy with the service and support from day one. And with the final result.
The team are very approachable, friendly and professional. I felt supported enough in the areas where I wasn't experienced, but listened to and understood on the points where I did have a specific idea of how I wanted things. For example, my feedback on the draft cover design was excellently incorporated into a new draft.
I also really like the initiative shown introducing some good ideas I would not have thought of, and a commitment to producing a product that meets the target audience's needs. This is very much a company that aims to produce high-quality work.
They are also very responsive and efficient, ready to help and answer all questions, and managing payments etc. was not a problem at all. The communication on pricing and different options is all very transparent.
Overall a great experience and I would recommend UK Book Publishing to anyone wanting to publish their book.”

'Maybe just this once'

We were delighted to work once more with this husband and wife team – he does the illustrations, she does the words. Their first book was a children’s novel. This time the illustrations took centre stage, in a delightful and enchanting book for younger readers.

“After the experience of having two books published by UK Book Publishing, my expectations have been surpassed. Ruth has been so helpful in guiding me with the editing and Jay is an outstanding designer. He brought my books up to a superb standard and nothing was too much trouble even though I asked him to make many changes! His artistic eye is fabulous with excellent ideas to share about the look of the books and a willingness to incorporate the author’s own preferences.
I am totally delighted with UK Book Publishing and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them.
Communication is extremely good from everyone. The attention to detail and friendly advice is fantastic.
My two books were very different. One a children’s novel and the other, a picture book. Both were accommodated with care and skill. The finished books are a delight.”
— Stella Baker

'Nosey Nora'

This beautiful illustrated children’s book was a personal project to raise funds for pancreatic cancer, but book sales have far exceeded expectations and Michael sold out of his first 500 print run within weeks. Local radio, Premiership football players and social media played a big part in promoting the book, with the result that lots of money has been raised for a very important cause.

“I did look at a lot of other publishing houses – but none made me feel so positive as UK Book Publishing.
Right from the very start UK Book Publishing had my interest as the main centrepiece of all of our conversations. I do not think either Ruth or Jay could’ve done any more for me to get my book published. The finished article is way above and beyond expectations that I had at the very start. Early next year I will reengage UK Book Publishing once more.”

'Colour-blind'

A memoir with a difference – a life that began in Durban, South Africa, growing up ‘colour-blind’, unaware of being classed as ‘mixed blood’ until Ken tries to get an apprenticeship – only available to ‘whites’ – and then decides to seek pastures new in England, where he still resides, finding the joy of colour in breeding flowers.

“Because I'd always spoken to my grandchildren about my early childhood and life in South Africa, they asked if I'd ever thought of putting it in print. I hadn't but thought, why not. So without having any diaries or notes I began writing, sometimes well into the night.
After finishing it, I started thinking of how to get it published. I looked up the website of publishing firms and of all those I saw UK Book Publishing seemed to have all the answers I needed to know.

Once I'd spoken to Ruth and Jay I knew I'd made the right decision. I cannot praise them highly enough. Because I'd never written or published a book before, there were so many things I wanted to know about the editing, the layout etc, and when I saw the cover design I was blown away. It was the icing on the cake. Jay really excelled himself.

Thank you, Ruth, Jay and the team. This book is a one off for me, but if any first time author isn't sure about how to get their book published, contact UK Book Publishing. You'll get the best advice ever.”

'Abigail’s Secret'

The appeal (and success) of this book lies in the way the author’s historical research has been woven into a wonderful tale of secrets, romance, relationships and most of all the way we can never fully escape the past. Set over almost a century, Abigail’s Secret has an enduring charm.

“After the hard but exciting, rewarding, work of writing a book, one is faced with the question, if desired, as to how to get the work published. It is a rather daunting prospect. This was my position in the later months of 2015 but after some research I was given the name of the publishing firm UK Book Publishing, who are based in Whitley Bay, Northumberland. I contacted them and after considering samples of my book they gave me a contract, with a view to publishing my book. From that initial contract to the publishing of my book ‘Abigail’s Secret’ this firm could not have been more helpful. They led me through the process with efficiency, competency, courtesy, and encouragement, from beginning to end and I could not have wished for better professional guidance. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and thus encouraged am now beginning research for a second book. This is a publishing firm to be thoroughly recommended, and I will certainly be in touch with UK Book Publishing again.”

'Bumhead Bill'

Barry brought his manuscript and illustrations into the office and had us all in stitches with his amusing rhymes and drawings. Aimed at young children who are into toilet humour (ie all children), this book will entertain and delight time and time again.

We took Barry’s drawings and turned them into a stunning colour cover, and published the book as print on demand and ebook, and Barry is also on his second print run for selling copies through many local bookshops and outlets. He has undertaken a range of marketing activity and is working hard to raise awareness of his book and support the sales. We await the next instalment with much anticipation.

“Looking for the right Publishing company? Then look no further. From start to finish this company have got it right. A very professional service from Jay, Ruth and the team. They made what I thought would be a difficult process painless. They always respond promptly to emails and calls and they listen carefully to your questions and concerns. I will be producing more Bumhead Bill books in the future and will most certainly be using UK Book Publishing. 5 Stars from me. ”

'Northumbria Bird Atlas'

This major book was ten years in the making: compiling the huge amounts of data for more than 200 birds, designing the maps and deciding how to present the data, and then laying each page out to make the most of the beautiful photography has resulted in a book that will delight its readers and provide a valuable reference resource for many enthusiastic bird watchers across the county.

“When embarking on the Northumbria Bird Atlas the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club made a highly fortunate decision in choosing UK Book Publishing to publish and print the Atlas. The whole project needed complex mapping plus organisation of many individual files to pull together into the final pdf. Dan Brady and his team at UK Book Publishing proved to be admirably patient in dealing with our many text changes during the project. We all found Dan to be very easy to work with and he was obviously keen to produce a quality 512 page book that we could all look back on as an important publication on the distribution and abundance of Northumberland's birds. As a local firm it made communication much easier and Dan attended probably more committee meetings than he cares to remember to fully iron out all the many issues involved. To say that we are happy with the finished article is something of an understatement. Even though the Atlas was only launched yesterday I have already received many comments as to the quality of the printing and the immaculate presentation. It has featured on BBC's Look North as a major publication on Northumberland's birdlife and I am sure will have a prominent place on the shelf at UK Book Publishing as a job well done.
Thanks again to Dan and his team for their professional publishing expertise and good humour throughout even under great stress at times due to publishing deadlines.”

'Vance Clayton through the years'

‘Vance Clayton through the years’ tells the story of North East musician and entertainer Brian Leonard, who has worked in the entertainment business for more than 50 years. His biographer approached us for help in producing the book in time for Brian’s Golden Wedding anniversary and we were delighted to work with Michael and Brian.

The first print run sold out quickly and the second print sales are also going well. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy can contact Michael on 0191 2500870.

“As the author of the biography I, along with Brian Leonard the subject, considered a number of options for its publication including online self-publishing. However we both wanted a company with whom we could meet personally and which had the necessary services and tools but at the same time allowed us to make our own decisions throughout the publishing process. In UK Book Publishing we were delighted to find just what we wanted and more and they were virtually on our doorstep!

We were impressed with the friendly and understanding reception we received at our first meeting and thereafter with the support we received particularly from Jay Thompson. Himself a musician he seemingly had empathy for the project and, inter alia, designed a book cover which really made an impact with us and those ultimately buying the book.

We have no hesitation in recommending UK Book Publishing to other aspiring authors.”

'It’s a Dog’s Life'

We worked with author Stephen Wylie on his first book It’s a Dog’s Life, a heart-breaking tale of one dog’s journey through adversity. Stephen had a clear idea of how he wanted his book to look, and we worked with him to make his idea a reality.

We edited the book, designed and laid it out, and managed the printing of 1,000 paperback copies. Stephen is selling his book through his dog rescue charity website, with some of the proceeds going to his charity, SHAK.

“The books landed today and I still can't believe I've done it. Just wanted to thank you all for helping me when I really didn't know where to go next.”

'Blind Courage'

An inspiring woman and an amazing story. Christine Deponio went blind at 16, but she hasn’t let that stop her achieving her goals in life. Indeed she has fitted so much into her life so far, that this autobiography is only Part 1.

We proof-read, typeset and designed Christine’s book, set her book up for online print and e-book sales, and printed thousands of books. Christine organised two book launches and didn’t tire of signing books at both. She has also taken every opportunity to market her book, and the proceeds are going towards purchasing a new building for the hospice she runs.

'The History Gate Adventures'

The author had written a book for her nephew (in which he stars as the hero), and wanted to produce the book as a very special birthday surprise. We proofread the book, laid it out and designed a cover for the hardback book, and had a number of copies printed for the author. It’s a fantastic adventure – he’s a very lucky boy.

“Thank you so much for all of your efforts on the book – it arrived this morning and I must admit to shedding a little tear when I opened it. It looks fantastic!”

This engaging book is a personal and uplifting account of one man’s journey through the highs and lows of studying for a doctorate, from the initial enquiry through to the graduation ceremony.

We designed a cover for Michael’s book, proofread and laid out the book, and had a number of copies printed for him. He particularly liked the wordplay on the cover.

The book cover alone is confirmation that using ukBookPublishing has been a very worthwhile investment. I will certainly continue to recommend ukBookPublishing.”
