Children's Book Publishing Services in the UK

Children's books live or die on the illustrations and the feel of the paper, so we put real care into both.

We understand what children's book authors actually need

  • We coordinate illustrators and authors, or work with illustrations you already have, and we typeset in full colour so your artwork sits on the page the way you imagined.
  • We know the trim sizes, paper stocks and bindings that work for picture books, early readers and middle-grade titles, and we'll guide you through the choices.
  • You keep your rights and royalties, and you keep control of every spread before it goes to print.

How we publish your children's book

  1. 1. Tell us about your book

A short conversation about your story, the age range, whether you have illustrations already, and what kind of book you want to put into a child's hands.

  2. 2. We craft the book

Illustration coordination if you need it, full-colour interior layout, cover design, ISBN assignment, proof copies and print setup for paperback or hardback.

  3. 3. You publish

Proof copies to your door, then live on Amazon, listed through Nielsen for UK bookshops, and ready for school visits or launch events.

Publishing children’s books in the UK

Children’s books are a craft of their own. The trim size, the weight of the paper, the way a spread reads from left to right, the balance of text and image, the feel of a cover in small hands. None of it is accidental in a well-made picture book, and none of it comes out of a template. We work with authors, illustrators and parents who want their children’s book to stand up next to the titles in a school library or a Waterstones front table.

What makes children’s book publishing different

A picture book is as much a designed object as a written one. Illustration and text are not two layers to be bolted together; they are one piece of work. We coordinate illustration where it’s needed, typeset full-colour interiors with proper attention to bleeds and margins, and help you pick a binding that will survive being read at bedtime for years.

Questions children's authors ask us

Can you help me find an illustrator?
Yes. We work with a small network of illustrators across a range of styles, and we can introduce you to the ones who fit your story best. If you already have an illustrator, we're happy to work with them too.
Do you print in full colour?
Yes. Full-colour interiors are standard for picture books, and we'll help you choose between paperback and hardback based on the feel you want and how the book will be sold.
Can you do hardbacks for school visits and gift editions?
Yes. We can produce both paperback and hardback editions, and many of our children's authors do both: paperback for everyday sales and hardback for school visits, gifts and launches.
