Amazon A+ Content for Authors

When it comes to publishing on Amazon, having a brilliant book isn’t always enough. To truly stand out, authors need to make the most of every tool available. One of the most powerful yet often overlooked features is Amazon A+ Content. Whether you publish print-on-demand or ebooks, A+ Content can transform your book’s product page from a simple listing into an engaging sales tool. This guide will show you what Amazon A+ Content is, why it matters for your book’s success, and provide clear instructions on how to use A+ Content to convert browsers into buyers. We’ll also share insights on best practices, including learning from successful authors in your genre, and key guidelines to ensure your content gets approved.

What Exactly is Amazon A+ Content?

Amazon claims:

Basic A+ Content can increase sales by up to 8%—and well-implemented Premium A+ Content can increase sales by up to 20%.

Amazon A+ Content is a feature from Amazon that allows authors to add rich media to their Amazon product pages. Beyond your standard book description, A+ Content lets you include images, detailed text modules, comparison tables, and more. Think of it as an enhanced section on your book’s sales page that provides a deeper look into your book’s world, characters, themes, or unique selling points. A+ Content works like a dedicated sales page (known in marketing as a ‘landing page’) for your book. Its main purpose is to provide additional information and an immersive experience that helps readers make confident purchasing decisions. A+ Content appears about halfway down the product page, after the main product description and sponsored links, but before the main product details and about the author sections. In short: A+ Content it’s about showcasing your book’s value – to make more sales.

Examples

Here are two examples of A+ Content, from books in different genres: A Different Kind of Power by by Jacinda Ardern (memoir) Note the use of strong quotes, images, and bold design. Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry (novel) This one uses a comparison chart of all books in the series As you can see, the styling options are broad – you have a great deal of control, within certain limits (more on those in a minute).

Why A+ Content Makes a Difference

A+ Content offers a competitive advantage for both print-on-demand and ebook authors:

  • Higher Conversion Rates: Appealing and informative A+ Content directly influences a reader’s decision to purchase. By providing a richer experience, you significantly increase the chances of turning a browser into a buyer.
  • Stronger Brand Building: Your book is an extension of your author brand. A+ Content provides a platform to showcase your unique voice, create visual consistency across your titles, and build deeper connections with readers.
  • Better Discoverability (Indirectly): Whilst A+ Content doesn’t seem to be a direct ranking factor in Amazon’s search algorithm, it plays an important indirect role. Engaging content leads to visitors spending more time on your page, which can positively influence Amazon’s algorithm over time (Amazon rewards products that engage with shoppers).
  • More Engaging Pages: Standard product pages can feel static. A+ Content creates a more immersive experience. Through compelling visuals and well-crafted text, you draw readers into your book’s world.
  • Showcase Visual Elements: If your book contains illustrations, maps, character art, or photography, A+ Content is the perfect place to display these. This is particularly valuable for children’s books, graphic novels, cookbooks, or non-fiction titles that benefit from visual explanations.

Creating Amazon A+ Content: A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating A+ Content might seem daunting initially, but the process is straightforward once you understand the steps. Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: Access the A+ Content Manager

Begin in your Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) dashboard. Navigate to the Marketing tab and scroll down to find the A+ Content section. Click on Manage A+ Content. You’ll need to select the specific Amazon marketplace (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com, etc.) for which you want to create content. A+ Content is marketplace-specific, though Amazon will automatically copy approved English content to other English-speaking marketplaces, in draft form.

Step 2: Start Creating

In the A+ Content Manager, click Start creating A+ content. This takes you to the Content Details page where you’ll provide:

  • Content Name: For your reference only (not visible to customers). Choose something descriptive like " A+ Content"
  • Language: Select your content’s primary language

Step 3: Design with Modules

This is where creativity comes in. Amazon provides pre-designed modules you can combine to build your content. Click Add Module to see options. You’re limited to five modules per page, so choose wisely. Popular modules for authors include:

  • Company Logo: Space for your author logo or publishing imprint
  • Comparison Chart: Compare books in a series or different editions
  • Four Image & Text: Showcase themes, character profiles, or key selling points
  • Image with Text Overlay: Perfect for powerful quotes or thematic statements
  • Multiple Image Module: Creates a carousel for interior illustrations or maps
  • Single Image modules: Place an image alongside related text or excerpts

As you arrange modules, ask yourself: what information will be most compelling to readers? Guide people through your book’s story or message – make it appealing but don’t give too much away.

Step 4: Add Content and Submit

Populate your modules with high-resolution images and text. Take a step back – does the content make sense to someone who knows nothing about your book? (Below, I’ve added further suggestions of things to keep in mind when creating your content) When you’re happy, do one last check for errors, then submit to Amazon for review. It can take up to seven business days to receive approval, though often it’s approved within a day.

Amazon’s Guidelines: Key Points to Remember

Amazon has specific requirements your content must meet:

  • Copyright: Only use images and text you own or have permission to use
  • No Time-Sensitive Information: Avoid promotional prices, dates, or limited offers
  • No External Links: Don’t include websites, social media, or contact details
  • Moderate Language: Avoid aggressive claims like “best-selling” unless verifiable
  • Quality Images: Use only clear, high-resolution images
  • Authenticity: Ensure content appears genuine rather than obviously AI-generated
  • Keep it Clean: Don’t overwhelm with too much text or too many images

Best Practices for Success

To make the most of A+ Content:

  • Study Successful Authors: Look at bestselling books in your genre. How do they use A+ Content? What works well? Use these insights whilst maintaining your unique voice. Remember, what works in a different genre might not be suitable for your book.
  • Think Landing Page, Not Advert: Focus on being informative and immersive rather than pushy.
  • Quality Matters: A few well-designed modules beat a cluttered page every time.
  • Beautiful Imagery: If your book has stunning visuals, this is where they shine.
  • Key reviews: If you have glowing reviews, show the best of them here.

Creating graphics

If you’re doing this yourself and have limited design experience, a tool such as Canva will make the graphics creation much easier. Or, you could hire a graphic designer to help. If you’re a new UK Book Publishing author – good news – we can create the A+ Content graphics for you.

Final Thoughts

Amazon A+ Content offers an opportunity to enhance your book’s presence on Amazon, engage readers more deeply, and boost sales for both print and digital titles. By understanding the principles I’ve outlined here, following Amazon’s guidelines, being creative and true to your genre and book content, A+ Content can help to convert more browsers into readers. As of the time of writing, Amazon A+ Content is still underused. Use this to your advantage to give your book a better presence on Amazon.
